Brazil rolled past USA and moved to the final
COLIMA, Mexico, June 28, 2007.- Brazil rolled past USA in straight
sets and advanced to the championship match of the Sixth Annual
Women’s Pan American Cup.
The young Brazilians displayed a tight defense combined with
thunderous spikes in winning 25-15, 25-15, 25-18. They will meet
in the gold medal match against the winner of Cuba and Dominican
Republic in the other semi final.
The Brazilians had 13 blocks with Camila Monteiro and Malu Silva
leading the way with 5 and 4 respectively. Natalia Pereira had 15
points, Silvana Papini 14, Monteiro 11 and Silva 9. American
Cassandra Busse scored 10.
“We played spectacular volleyball and executed all the
fundamentals,” said Luizomar Moura, the Brazilian coach. “I am
very proud of our girls who showed a great heart.”
“We were under pressure all the time,” said Lang Ping, the USA
coach. “They served, blocked and hit well and we could not do
anything.”
“They played great, is all I have to say, congratulations,” said
Robyn Ah Mow-Santos, the captain of USA.
